Installation Information

  • Electric Fires

Installation of electric fires is often as simple as placing it where you want it and plugging it in. Please do pay attention to the detailed instructions provided with each product though, as some need a stability bracket affixing if they are to be free standing rather than fixed in place, and there are numerous safety warnings to take into account. This is especially important where children and the elderly/infirm will be around. Wall hanging electric fires will require some competence to fit to the wall but fitting templates are usually provided where required. If you are having any electrical work done in your home other than plugging the fire in to an existing socket, it is now necessary to use an appropriately qualified electrician. Easy access must always be available to the electrical supply isolator for the fire whether it is a plug socket or fixed fused spur.

  • Gas Fires

The UK Law

Installation of gas fires is critical to safety and performance and for some years now it has been the Law that they must be commissioned by a CORGI registered installer. Fires bought from us are no different and in the UK you must abide by this regulation.

Site Suitability - A Site Survey

You are free to survey your own home and choose a product but this is no substitute for a professional opinion as flues and ventilation need to be serviceable before the installation can be safely commissioned. At Fireplacenet we always recomend using a registered installer to survey your property and agree the appliance you intend to ask them to fit before going ahead with the purchase. We cannot accept returns because there was a failure to check that the product was suitable for your requirements. Please be 100% sure it is the right choice and if there are any questions please e-mail us at sales@fireplacenet.co.uk.

Finding an Installer

You can access the national database of CORGI installers at the CORGI find an installer website to help you find a local registered installer.

  • Fireplaces

Installation of fireplaces needs competence in achieving the desired results. Timber mantels are probably the easiest option (similarly electric suites are fairly straightforward) but they must be plumb and square and properly secured to the wall. Proper thought must be given to securing and sealing back panels and hearths where they are to be used with gas fires or even solid fuel. Solid fuel may require a lot more work, including slabbing of back panels and hearths and installation of hearth plates and rebated trims etc. Stone fireplaces are probably the most difficult installation and may need the services of an experienced installer or builder to achieve an acceptable finish. Electric fire suites need thought as to proper access to the electrical supply for servicing and isolation for changing bulbs etc
